Iconic figure of 20th century French literature, novelist Françoise Sagan was born 21 June, 1935 in Cajarc, France. Her first novel, Bonjour tristesse (Hello Sadness) was published in 1954, when she was only 19, and it was an immediate international success. The novel concerns "the life of pleasure-driven 17-year-old Cécile, her relationship with her boyfriend and her adulterous, playboy father". Though Françoise Sagan continued writing until her death in 2004, her later works could not repeat the success of her first novel. |
