Hungarian Book Market: Further Shrinking print
March 9, 2011

Based on the latest statistics, Hungarian book sales dropped by 4% last year compared to 2009, which means a rough 9% relapse when considering inflation, too. Cause of this unfortunate tendency is on one hand the economic crisis (people don’t spend as much on books as before), while on the other hand the internet downloads and illegal copying also add to the decrease in book sales. The market of scientific and technical books suffered the biggest drop last year followed by the sales of children’s books. Less audio books were sold and the market of digital books is not considerable yet, though sales in the latter category show at least a modest increase.
