At the age of 72, legendary Irish novelist Maeve Binchy died yesterday following a short illness. Her stories, known for the humorous take on rural life in Ireland were very popular not only in her country, but all over the world. Her novels and short stories were translated into 37 languages and more than 40 million copies were sold worldwide since the publication of the first short story in 1978. Her most famous book is probably the Circle of Friends (1990) which was made into a Hollywood movie starring Minnie Driver and Chris O'Donnell. |
