Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio (usually identified as J.M.G. Le Clézio) was born on April 13, 1940. Le Clézio was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2008 as an "author of new departures, poetic adventure and sensual ecstasy, explorer of a humanity beyond and below the reigning civilization". Le Clézio has been writing since age seven; he achieved early success at the age of 23 with his first novel (The Interrogation) that earned him the Prix Renaudot. Since then, he has published more than 35 books, including short stories, novels, essays and children's books. |
