Print Newspapers Face Difficulties in Romania print
March 25, 2011

Leaders of another prestigious Romanian daily, the Gandul decided to terminate the print version of the paper and take it entirely online (internet, mobile phones, etc.) from April. Leading national dailies were seriously affected by the crisis: since 2009, several papers have disappeared from newsstands and gone online, while many of them vanished completely. For example, the new owners of daily Cotidianul took the paper online, while Gardianul could not overcome the crisis. The print papers that remained on the market had to adapt to the new conditions: almost every daily stopped its weekend edition and many of them reduced both size and content. Perhaps the only exception is Adevarul that started an aggressive conquest of the market these recent years.
