Sixty years after its first edition, the last novel of Hans Fallada Every Man Dies Alone goes through new revival after the unchanged version of the book has been published for the first time. The novel Fallada completed just days before his death in 1947 is based on a true story of a couple living in Berlin resisting Nazism after having lost their son. The first edition of the book in 1947 went through major changes: several parts were adapted to the political ideals of the era, while some parts were deleted or re-written. This new edition is based on the recently found original manuscript without any changes, though the English translation received a new title (Alone in Berlin). |
