Colleen McCullough, the internationally acclaimed Australian author celebrates her 75th birthday today. Born in Wellington 1 June, 1937, she was a "voracious reader" even at an early age who chose medicine as her career. She didn't give up her dreams of becoming an author and published her first novel in 1974. This was soon (1977) followed by her best-selling novel, The Thorn Birds that brought her international acclaim. The book was adapted into a TV mini-series starring Richard Chamberlain, and became the second highest rated mini-series in the US of all time. The Hungarian version of the novel was published in 1990, in the translation of Mária Borbás and Árpád Göncz, former President of Hungary. Happy Birthday to the Author!
