J. D. Salinger, author of 'The Catcher in the Rye', one of the most influential novels in the twentieth century, passed away at the age of 91 in his New Hampshire home on the 28th of January 2010. The writer spent the last' 50 years in complete isolation in a small village, and it is not known if he had been writing at all since then, as he has published nothing since 1963.
